art as as a narrative: this is a concept i've always respected and admired.
i'm one of those helplessly introspective types, perhaps too much for my own good. that, combined with an urgency to live to the fullest and an ambivalence that pervades my said urgency, has lead me to a series of crunches, and for me that's where creativity comes in to play.
my indulgence in the arts has been based, chronologically, on writing, photography, and music. oddly, the order of my devotion to these mediums is the opposite. i am a music student, but have never given up my passion for the captured image. what's really important though, is that, as easily as anyone, i am occasionally possessed by moments of overwhelming artistic inspiration where "medium" is but a trite detail in the grand scheme. i truly live for these moments.
creating enables, among others, two key things for me: 1) the existence of a narrative that, in its essence, provides a counterpoint to the confounding forces of this world to those who create and, potentially, those who observe (read: partake).
2) the capture of something fleeting in something tangible. in this case i mean the stimulus of a moment on the mind.heart combination.
i feel a pressure to remember the good times, because i've realized that i, at least, do not by default do this as well as i remember the bad. i realize more and more i've spent a lot of my life with my jaw clenched, with a frown on my face. the thought of this being a defining thread of the memory of my youth (read:life) is terrifying.
thus i'm creating this blog, not necessarily for public reasons but as a place where i can store a mix of photos, writings, and eventually music that either come from or represent important phases in my life.
i'm open to sharing this: hence the verbose self-explanation here; but the intent is more packrat than exhibitionist. simply put, i'm afraid i might forget.
besides waxing introspective, i study music. i'm in love with it, and in a youthful spirit will say that i'm prepared to accept poverty and hunger for this art.
